The national certification examination for radiography
is a standardized test administered by the
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and
includes 220 multiple-choice questions; 200 questions
are scored, 20 questions are unidentified pilot
questions. The time allotted for the test is 3 1/2 hours;
passing score is 75 percent.
Beginning January 2000, the ARRT discontinued
paper and pencil testing and began to use computer-based
testing (CBT) for the administration of its radiography
examinations.
ARRT examinations are administered via computer.
Candidates are presented with multiple-choice questions
on a computer screen and directed to select an
answer using either the keyboard or a mouse. The
process allows candidates to review or change any
answers to any questions prior to submitting the
completed examination for scoring.
A tutorial is offered at the beginning of each
examination that allows the candidate to answer
several practice questions. This ensures that the candidate
is thoroughly familiar with the process.
